NBS, ARCN sign agreement to strengthen agricultural research data system

Abuja, Nigeria- 22nd June,2026- National Bureau of Statistics signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) to strengthen collaboration on the Agricultural Science and Technology Indicators (ASTI) project and institutionalise high-quality agricultural research data in Nigeria.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Statistician-General of the Federation and Chief Executive Officer of NBS, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, described the partnership as a win-win for both institutions and the country at large, noting that it would enhance the tracking, measurement, and optimisation of agricultural research and development in Nigeria.

The Executive Secretary of ARCN, Dr. Abubakar Adamu Dabban, commended the NBS for successfully piloting the ASTI initiative, describing it as a model for other African countries to emulate.

The MoU provides a strategic framework for strengthening data collection, validation, analysis, and standardisation within the National Agricultural Research System. It also establishes mechanisms for capacity building, dissemination of ASTI findings, and evidence-based advocacy to support increased investment in agricultural research and development.

The Statistician-General of the Federation and CEO of the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, and the Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN), Dr. Abubakar Adamu Dabban, append their signatures to the Memorandum of Understanding, witnessed by officials from both institutions.

The partnership is expected to ensure the sustainable production of agricultural research statistics, strengthen collaboration through a Joint Technical Working Committee, and further integrate ARCN into Nigeria’s national statistical system
