National Bureau of Statistics Celebrates African Statistics Day 2024.

On Monday, 18th November 2024, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) celebrated African Statistics Day with an exciting and impactful event. The theme for this year was "Supporting Education by Modernising the Production of Fit-for-Purpose Statistics", highlighting the importance of data in shaping education and development in Africa. The celebration was honored by the presence of His Excellency, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, the Honourable Minister of Budget and Economic Planning. His participation added to the significance of the occasion as government officials, statisticians, and stakeholders gathered to emphasize the role of statistics in driving progress across the continent.

The event featured a lively and informative panel discussion, moderated by Chief Nancy Illoh-Nnaji. The panelists, experts from various fields, shared their insights on how modern statistics can improve education and support national development. The session sparked engaging conversations on how statistics can be used to design better educational policies and programs. Guests also enjoyed fun and interactive games, and awards were presented to past Statistician-Generals for their valuable contributions to Nigeria's statistical development.

A special highlight of the day was the inspiring paper presentation by Professor Joy Nwabueze, Nigeria’s first female Professor of Statistics. Her presentation focused on the crucial role of statistics in improving education.

The celebration concluded with a tour of the National Bureau of Statistics, led by the Statistician-General, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran. The tour provided a closer look at the Bureau's work in collecting and analyzing data that supports important decision-making.
